Ford/Dodge Installation Guide

Ford: 1992-2004, 2005-Current, 450-550 versions

Dodge: 1992-1998

Before We Get Started

Now would be an ideal time to fully rebuild your steering system, we start by fully dissembling the axles, Press out the old ball joints in the knuckles. Pressure wash and sandblast the knuckles till clean. (This is not entirely necessary but makes it easier to have a cleaner look.)

Step 1

Preheat the knuckle. Make sure the top-hole location of the Ball joint is cleaned out to except the steel Nut insert. This will ensure its goes all the way in and seats correctly. The knuckles can be pre heated in a few ways (torch, oven, grill).

We like to reach around (400-450F) for easy of installation of the steel insert and welding on top and bottom.

Step 2

After preheating the knuckle is complete you must press in the steel threaded insert. This can be done with a ball joint press or if your precise enough with a hammer and a soft material to hit against the steel insert will get the job done.

(Do Not hit the steel directly with a hammer! Mushroom the steel insert will accrue and there is a no room for error.)

The steel threaded insert is firmly pressed all the way in and is resting completely at the bottom of the upper ball joint hole chamfer. Let the heat soak in to the threaded insert till the to normalize in temp and both are close to the same around 400 degrees.

Step 3

You must weld the top and bottom of the Ball Joint Eliminator.

I always start with the top and weld completely around the top chamfer. Be carful not to get to wide with the bead for your high steer arms. Weld bb’s have a tendency of getting caught in the threads of the threaded steel inserts be sure they are protected while welding and cleaned after.

Flip the knuckle upside down and weld the bottom of the insert full circle. The kit was made for the average joe in mind. Mig welding, Tig, or stick with the right rods have been proven very effective at holding strong throughout years of abuse.
